We were so excited to see what Dr.Josh Axe has to say about tiger nuts, and pleased to find out that he is clearly a fan!

Dr. Josh Axe is a wellness an health expert, an author,  certified doctor of natural medicine, doctor of chiropractic and a clinical nutritionist with a passion to help people get healthy by using food as medicine.  He runs one the largest  functional medicine clinics in the world, and has one of the most visited natural health websites www.DrAxe.com,  where the main topics include nutrition, natural medicine, fitness, healthy recipes, and home remedies. He offers tons of help and advice about health and healthy living, and is an expert on gut health, and thyroid issues. In particular Cr.Axe is an expert on how to heal leaky gut syndrome, which is an often undiagnosed condition that can cause food allergies and intolerance, low energy, joint pain, thyroid disease, autoimmune conditions and slow metabolism.  I’m also a massive fan of his new book Eat Dirt, as well as his Gut Repair Cookbook.

Dr.Josh Axe explains that not only are tiger nuts high in fibre and ani-oxidants but that they also have the the ability to fight bacteria in the human body. One study published in Ancient Science of Life found extracts of Cyperus esculentus actually had bacteria-fighting effects on several dangerous human pathogens, including salmonella and E coli.  Tiger nuts may even be helpful in combating common bacterial infections, especially for those who have developed antibiotic resistance in third-world countries. Its really important to include immune system boosting foods such as tiger nuts to help you fight off infections naturally.

In addition tiger nuts are a great snack if you are diabetic, as the insoluble fiber in these tubers helps control blood sugar levels. A 2015 study published in the Journal of Pharmacy & Bioallied Sciences looked at the effects of Cyperus rotundus — which has many similar antioxidant capabilities that the tiger nut has — on diabetic mice, which showed positive signs tiger nuts  as a possible treatment  for diabetes.

He also goes on to say that tiger nuts have been proven to lower levels of LDL cholesterol and balance cholesterol levels.

There are lots of reasons to include tiger nuts in your diet, but just in case you needed another, did you know that tiger nuts help boost testosterone levels and sexual performance?! Need I say more!
